Tomberlin is a recognized leader in the design and development of low-speed vehicles (LSVs) for use as golf carts and community transportation, and one of the most stylish, powerful and efficient of these is the E-Merge E2 48SS. When the premier model of the E-Merge was released, it made big news in the industry for being one of the first vehicles specifically designed for use in neighborhoods and golf-cart communities. In the years that followed, Tomberlin has modified and improved the design for its new models, the pinnacle of which is the E-Merge E2 48SS.
Overview of the E-Merge E2 48SS
The E-Merge E2 48SS was built to provide thousands of miles of enjoyment while serving your local transportation needs. It was engineered by scientists and includes components from some of the top manufacturers around the world. The fact that Tomberlin did not try to reinvent the wheel is the company’s strongest asset. Rather than produce all-new equipment from scratch, parts and accessories were incorporated that had already been tried and tested to outperform the competition.
The E2 48SS is the perfect vehicle for round-trip drives of 30 miles or less in all types of terrain, but of course, it will perform the most efficiently and safely on smooth, level surfaces. This vehicle is simply fun to drive, and you won’t mind being seen in it like you would some of the golf carts from other manufacturers. The sleek yet rugged design is made to fit people of any lifestyle, and it includes several safety features that are normally found only on full-size cars. Tomberlin certainly lives up to its motto with this model: "Changing the way America commutes."
Electric cars are now making their way into the mainstream, but for most people, the first introduction to this mode of transportation has been the golf cart. What few realize today, however, is that LSVs not only have a rich history but are also the wave of the future. The E-Merge series of NEVs is fun to drive and street legal in all 50 states, and every model is energy efficient, affordable and easy to maintain. In addition, you may be able to take advantage of federal and state tax credits when you purchase one.
E-merge E2 48SS Specifications
The E-merge E2 is about the size of a standard golf cart. It is 94.5 inches in length by 47.2 inches in width by 70.9 inches in height, including the canopy. The curb weight of the vehicle with batteries in place is 1,188 pounds.
This NEV is powered by an advanced, 48-volt, DC motor with air ventilation that provides 16.75 peak horsepower and 5 continuous horsepower that can bring it to a maximum speed of 25 mph. It is run on six 8-volt, lead-acid batteries that are charged by an onboard Delta Q charging system, and it is equipped with either a 400-amp GE controller or a high-performance, 500-amp Curtis controller, depending on the specific year. The vehicle has a maximum range of 30 miles on a single battery charge. In addition, it includes a selection switch that allows you to toggle between standard LSV mode and economy mode to save the charge in your batteries.
The body is high-quality, injection-molded plastic with a glossy top coat that is available in black or white. You also have the option of adding a color-matched roof to the top and a removable, locking trunk to the back. The aluminum wheels are either 10 inches or 12 inches in diameter, and the rack-and-pinion steering ensures that you are always in control. Both the front and rear wheels have hydraulic disc brakes, and it includes an independent parking brake.
The Tomberlin E-Merge E2 48SS comes with a variety of standard safety features. Three-point seat belts are provided for both passengers, and a tip-over protection (TOPS) feature keeps you upright during sharp turns. Rear view and side mirrors are available for the driver, and the headlights have both high beams and low beams. Other safety equipment includes turn signals with emergency four-way flashers, taillights, a roof-mounted brake light and windshield wipers.
One of the best parts of the E-Merge E2 48SS is the roomy and comfortable interior. The front bench seat with individual seat backs is black with black piping, and the instrument panel provides you with a digital speedometer, odometer and trip computer. In addition, a 12-volt accessory outlet is available so you can charge your phone or other electronic devices, and a battery-charge indicator tells you how much juice you have before it has to be plugged into an outlet.
