Automobiles are vehicles of the past. The latest and greatest way to get around your neighborhood or community is actually one of the oldest when it comes to electric motorized transportation: golf carts. Serving as proof that golf carts have gone from the links to the mainstream is the Garia LSV. LSV stands for low-speed vehicle, and most models are now street legal on many roads in the U.S. and in countries around the world. Although you could buy budget vehicles from companies such as Club Car and E-Z-Go, why not spend a little more on a luxury electric cart like the Garia LSV?
In 2010 and 2011, gas prices were escalating quickly, and many people were looking for ways to save money. One method that began to catch on was to purchase an LSV. These vehicles had been available since 1998, but they had not gained widespread popularity because their maximum speed was limited to 25 mph.
Recently, the federal government began to offer a 10 percent tax credit when purchasing an LSV for neighborhood use, and models from the leading golf cart manufacturers began to take off. One company, however, decided that the options available didn’t suit people from all walks of life, so Garia started developing a luxury LSV that has gained critical acclaim and ample attention from the media.
Garia is a private company in Denmark with a large subsidiary based in the United States, and it was founded on the concept of combining style, quality and passion with a traditional golf cart in order to establish a paradigm shift that would ripple throughout the industry. After the designing process was complete, the top European components were gathered and assembled by hand to create a luxury LSV like no other before it.
The skilled engineers and designers working for Garia used only the most advanced technology and the highest quality products to build these vehicles in a factory in Finland that had been used to produce Porsches since 1997. Many of the components are made elsewhere by suppliers who provide them to other luxury automobile manufacturers, including Jaguar, Volvo, Aston Martin and Ducati.
One of the greatest aspects of the Garia LSV is that it can be made to order, and a full range of extravagant options are available to personally customize the vehicle to suit your needs and tastes. After all is said and done, the Garia LSV is a wonder to behold, and it is even more awe-inspiring to drive.
The Garia LSV is a little smaller than standard golf carts, but it is wider to provide extra comfort. Overall, the vehicle is 93 inches long, 52 inches wide and 73 inches high. The wheelbase is 71 inches for added stability, and the minimum ground clearance is 6.5 inches.
The chassis is constructed of lightweight aluminum and is guaranteed for five years. It also has a robot-welded aluminum roof and rack-and-pinion steering. The double-wishbone front suspension includes automotive ball joints and coil covers, and the live rear axle is mounted with trailing links, coilovers and Panhandle rods.
Power is delivered to the Garia LSV by a high-efficiency, three-phase AC motor with 15 horsepower at peak times and 4 horsepower on a continual basis. It operates through six 8-volt Trojan batteries and has a 275-amp Curtis controller. The batteries are recharged through an onboard Delta Q charger.
The Garia LSV weighs 1,200 pounds and has a payload capacity of 770 pounds. Its maximum forward speed is 25 mph, and it can go 6 mph in reverse. Depending on the speed and weather conditions, it can be driven for 25 miles to 40 miles before the batteries lose power, but they can be recharged in only seven hours. The vehicle stops through hydraulic disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear, and it includes an automatic, electromagnetic parking brake.
The features and options are a large part of what makes the Garia LSV so special. It is available in three basic colors, white, cream and red, which can be upgraded to a choice of five premium metallic colors. The seats are available in oak, walnut or cherry, and the roof is black with a gray headliner.
Driving the Garia LSV is like a dream. Just gripping the flat-bottomed, sports steering wheel makes you feel like you are going 65 mph rather than only 25 mph, and plenty of cargo space is provided, including two glove boxes, two double cup holders, a covered ice box mounted on the dashboard and a removable bin.
