In 2007, one of the largest and most respected golf cart manufacturers in the world, E-Z-GO, released the Freedom RXV fleet car, but it was initially only available for purchase by golf courses. The company had been producing electric and gas vehicles designed specifically for the links since 1954, but at this time, they were beginning to increase in popularity for personal use in master-planned communities and neighborhoods, especially in warm, coastal areas.

The Freedom RXV received a great deal of praise, and sales were so robust that E-Z-GO released a version for personal use less than a year later. This low-speed vehicle (LSV) is the perfect choice for those who are looking for versatility both on the golf course and off. It is not only safe and durable but also reliable, attractive and customizable.

Introducing the Freedom RXV

The Freedom RXV is a great personal golf car that includes a wide selection of features and optional accessories. The personal model is based on the fleet car, but it is available for anyone to purchase. Whether you choose the electric model or the gasoline-operated version, you are sure to enjoy this environmentally friendly transportation option each time you drive it.

“We’re thrilled to introduce the all-new Freedom RXV, a personal golf car unlike any other,” said Kevin P. Holleran, president of E-Z-GO, upon its introduction. “From its powerful engine to its remarkable braking system to its incredibly stable suspension, the Freedom RXV sets a new benchmark for golf car performance.”

Hollaran didn’t stop there. “Even more importantly, the Freedom RXV was built to be the safest car on the course or in the neighborhood, and we were determined to keep the new vehicle’s environmental impact at a minimum through improved electric and gas efficiency,” he concluded.

Powertrain and Braking

One of the standout features of the Freedom RXV is the dual braking system. E-Z-GO is credited with developing these brakes specifically for the electric RXV, but they have been imitated by nearly all of the largest manufacturers of LSVs since then. With this system, you no longer need a parking brake. The vehicle’s brakes lock automatically while parked, and they activate on steep grades for improved control and added safety.

These powerful brakes can hold the vehicle on grades of up to 40 percent, and the drive-by-wire technology helps maintain a safe, constant speed on any type of terrain. Another feature of the brakes is that every time they are applied, whether manually or automatically, they supply a charge to the battery, which enhances efficiency, extends the driving range and improves the overall lifespan.

The electric version of the Freedom RXV runs on a 48-volt AC motor at 4.4 continuous horsepower. It is powered by four 12-volt, deep-cycle batteries and has a 230-amp speed controller.

The gasoline version includes a 13-horsepower, high-performance engine from Kawasaki. It has a single, large cylinder, and it was designed with fuel efficiency and quiet operation in mind.

Safety and Sustainability

In addition to the advanced brakes, the E-Z-GO Freedom RXV includes several other safety features to keep you and your family secure. The limited slip differential improves traction by 25 percent to improve vehicle stability, especially on traditionally unreliable surfaces such as wet grass and sand. The slip-resistant floor mats also help prevent injuries while entering and exiting the car in wet conditions. Finally, the bumpers are designed to absorb and transfer energy, reducing the shock from impacts and collisions, and passengers are kept from being jostled by safety belts and hip restraints.

Comfort and Convenience

Among the top reasons why the Freedom RXV is so popular as a neighborhood vehicle are that it is comfortable, convenient and reliable. The automotive-style, A-arm suspension includes coil-over-spring shock absorbers that provide for a smooth ride even over bumpy terrain, and the thick, foam padding in the seats helps maintain the ergonomics of the interior without sacrificing comfort.

In addition, this vehicle has a great deal of storage space to accommodate large golf bags and luggage. Four cup holders are placed within arms’ reach of all passengers, and a wide canopy prevents rain from getting inside.

The Freedom RXV is incredibly reliable, and E-Z-GO guarantees its performance with one of the most comprehensive warranties in the industry. This LSV is covered from bumper to bumper for four years, and the batteries are made to last for at least 21,500 amp hours.

When it comes to summarizing this vehicle, Mr. Holleran says it best: “With the Freedom RXV, E-Z-GO offers a golf car that exceeds expectations in every way.”
