One of the fastest-growing categories of golf carts is the multi-passenger, all-terrain transportation vehicle, and no other model can meet the reliability and durable construction of the E-Z-GO Express L6. Even though this cart seats six people, it is smaller than most of the other golf carts in its class, yet it has 58 percent more horsepower than the average multi-passenger transportation vehicle. In addition, the E-Z-GO Express L6 includes a multitude of advanced features for safety, comfort and power.
A New Family Cart for All Environments
Not only is the E-Z-GO Express L6 designed for families and other close groups but also for off-road activities and difficult terrain. It includes four front-facing seats and two rear-facing seats that easily convert into a cargo area for all of your gear. The Express L6 has been in production since 2011, but in 2012, it received a major overhaul and is now available with either a 48-volt electric motor or a 13-horsepower gasoline engine. It can also be customized in one of 17 different colors, including black, two whites, two greens, two oranges, three blues, three reds, yellow, almond, charcoal and platinum.
Body and Dimensions
The dimensions for the Express L6 are the same for both the electric and gas-powered models. It is 143.5 inches in overall length and 48.5 inches in width. Without the roof, it is only 52.5 inches high at the tallest point, which is the top of the steering wheel, but with the roof, it is 76.5 inches to the top of the canopy. The ground clearance at the differential is 7 inches, and the front-wheel track is 37.5 inches compared with 38.5 inches for the rear track. The wheel base, however, is a respectable 95 inches.
The frame of the Express L6 from E-Z-GO is made of welded tubular steel with a DuraShield coating to protect it from the elements, and the front and rear body is constructed of injection-molded thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO). To round the cart out, the seat pod is formed fiberglass with a gel coating, which means it is sturdy yet comfortable for long rides.
What makes the Express L6 so popular is that E-Z-GO offers a choice of a battery-operated version and a gasoline-powered version. If you choose the electric model, the L6 will be sporting a 48-volt DC, shunt wound motor with 18.5 horsepower. It runs on eight 6-volt deep-cycle batteries and has a 400-amp speed controller. This gives the cart a maximum speed of 16 mph on level ground. The motor is started with the pedal, and the forward-neutral-reverse gear is mounted on the dash.
When you choose the gasoline-powered L6, it comes equipped with a four-cycle, 24.5-cubic-inch, low-emission engine with a single cylinder and hemispheric combustion chamber that provides 13.5 horsepower. The engine is started with an electric starter that requires one 12-volt, maintenance-free battery. This engine is air-cooled and includes a continuously variable transmission, and the capacity of the fuel tank is 5.8 gallons.
Standard and Optional Features
The standard features of the Express L6 are enough to get you by, but you shouldn’t forget that dozens of optional features are available. Standard features include all of the following:
- Headlights and taillights
- Brush guard
- Fuel gauge or state-of-charge meter
- Cup holders
- Dashboard storage pockets
A few of the most popular optional features are as follows:

E-Z-GO is a pioneer in the golf cart industry and was one of the first manufacturers to be established before these vehicles gained widespread popularity in the late 1950s. The company was founded in the summer of 1954 by brothers Billie and Beverly Dolan in Augusta, Georgia. They believed that they had the knowledge and skills required to build a golf cart better than any other on the market, and they set out to do so in a small, one-room machine shop. As part of their vision, the brothers also believed that they could provide exceptional customer service by putting the needs of their clients before their own.
Since those humble beginnings, E-Z-GO has become recognized as a world leader in the golf cart and utility vehicle industry. The company was so successful that it was purchased by Textron, Inc., a global, multi-industry corporation located in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1960. Textron is a Fortune 500 company that employs more than 35,000 people in 25 countries around the world.
The corporation was founded in 1923, and today, it boasts total revenues of $12.1 billion and consists of several subsidiaries that are responsible for all aspects of day-to-day operations. E-Z-GO is one of the most prominent of these companies, but it is joined by many other prestigious manufacturers, including Cessna, Bell Helicopter, Beechcraft, Lycoming, Greenlee and Kautex.
More than 60 years after the Dolan brothers built their first golf cart, the company remains headquartered in Augusta, and it manufactures tens of thousands of golf carts, personal transportation vehicles and utilities vehicles annually. E-Z-GO is known for being an innovator in the industry, and the company’s carts are extremely efficient and include enhanced technology to improve safety and the overall user experience.
In addition, E-Z-GO is recognized for its exceptional operations. The company received the Shingo Prize for Operational Excellence in 2009, and it was named one of the top 10 manufacturing plants in North America by Industry Week.
The E-Z-GO Express L6 is a solid golf cart, and being available in both electric and gas-powered versions means that it will suit anyone who is looking to transport four to six passengers over all types of terrain. This vehicle is manufactured by one of the most respected and trusted golf cart companies in the world, and its reputation for excellence cannot be argued. When you take the Express L6 for a test spin, you will realize immediately that it soars above the competition, but if you don’t believe me, try a side-by-side comparison, and the results will be clear. Finally, this multi-passenger golf cart comes with an extremely reasonable price tag considering all the advanced features it offers.
