CitECar, headquartered in Gainesville, Florida, is one of the newest and most innovative golf cart manufacturers in the world. The company is well known for its Buddy line of commercial electric vehicles and the Bubble Buddy personal low-speed vehicle (LSV). And the original CitECar 2P golf cart is still a solid choice when you are looking for reliable, comfortable and environmentally friendly transportation. As a street-legal vehicle, the CitECar 2P can serve a broad range of transportation needs. It's perfect to drive through campgrounds, college campuses, airports, gated communities and local neighborhoods.
Choosing an LSV
The choice to purchase a CitECar 2P as a second vehicle should not be a difficult one to make because the statistics are undeniable. Even though 65 percent of families in the U.S. already own a second car, more than half of the trips made in them are less than 10 minutes from home. And 80 percent of destinations are less than ten miles away.
The short trips for which second cars are inevitably used are notoriously inefficient and put a tremendous amount of wear on traditional automobiles. In addition to necessitating the purchase of expensive fossil fuels, short trips create an inordinate level of pollution that can easily be avoided with an electric LSV, also known as a neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV).
LSV is an official designation of the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA). As such, all vehicles conforming to this standard can be driven on public roads with a maximum speed limit of 35 mph or less. If you plan to have a large number of passengers on each of your trips, you can buy a four-seat, six-seat or even a 12-seat LSV. But if it is only you and another, one of the top LSVs to own is the CitECar 2P.
CitECar 2P Overview
The CitECar 2P is the perfect two-passenger LSV whether you plan to use it on the golf course or just for driving around the neighborhood. This vehicle is manufactured in the U.S. at the CitECar facility in Gainesville, Florida, and it can travel approximately 50 miles on a single charge. It includes a variety of standard equipment and a range of options that allow it to be customized to your specifications.
Because the CitECar 2P is legal to drive in most states, each unit is assigned a vehicle identification number (VIN), which permits you to register it with your state DMV. It also includes all of the other features required by the NHTSA for LSVs:
- Headlights, taillights, and brake lights
- Turn signals
- Parking brake
- Rearview mirrors
- AS1 DOT-approved windshield
Driving the CitECar 2P is simple because the vehicle also includes a full dashboard with several handy features. It powers on with a key ignition switch, and the accelerator pedal gives you complete control over the car’s speed, which tops out at 25 mph. All of the dashboard meters are digital, and among the readouts is a voltage meter that tells you the state of your batteries’ charge and how far you can drive.
CitECar 2P Performance
This golf cart is 7.7 feet long by 4 feet wide by 6.1 feet high, and it has a maximum load capacity of 500 pounds. Its top forward speed ranges from 20 mph to 25 mph, depending on the cargo and the incline. However, it can still be driven safely on a 20 percent grade at full capacity.
The electric motor in this vehicle is a DC model with 5.5 horsepower, and the speed controller is the Curtis Sepex 1268 which is both popular and powerful. The six batteries are Trojan T875s, and the Eagle On Board Charger can be used with any standard electrical outlet.
You always get a smooth ride with the CitECar 2P because of the dynamic suspension with front and rear plate springs and hydraulic shock absorbers. The 10-inch aluminum wheels provide a ground clearance of 5 inches, and the pneumatic braking system includes rear-wheel mechanical brakes.
Features of the CitECar 2P
The body of the CitECar 2P is made of a durable steel frame and plastic panels, and the fiberglass roof keeps passengers protected from sunlight and rain. Several color choices are also available, but they vary by what is in stock at the time. Other features of the CitECar 2P are as follows:
- Wood-grain highlights – backrests, steering wheel and dashboard
- Windshield wiper
- Audible backing signal
- Rack-and-pinion steering
CitECar backs the 2P with a three-year limited warranty on all parts, and it covers everything that is not meant to wear out with regular use.
