The land was given to the people of St. Andrews by a decree from King David I in 1123, and the first rounds of golf were played here in the 1400s. Since that time, millions of people have played at St. Andrews, and it has become known as the Home of Golf.<\/p>\n<p>In 1974, St. Andrews Links Trust (SALT) was established to perform management and maintenance duties, and today, more than 230,000 rounds are played on its seven public golf courses: Balgove Course, The Castle Course, Eden Course, Jubilee Course, the New Course, the Old Course and Strathtyrum Course. The Old Course is appropriately named as it is the oldest golf course in the world.<\/p>\n<p>The 300 hectares of land that comprise St. Andrews Links also support three clubhouses, the St. Andrews Links Golf Academy, and five pro shops, including the oldest golf shop in the world: the Tom Morris Shop. Club Car now designs some of the most advanced golf carts on the market and operates a worldwide distribution network that includes 600 dealers, distributors, and factory outlets. Club Car is currently owned by Ingersoll Rand; a diversified multinational corporation primarily focused on transportation.<\/p>\n<p>Although Club Car currently offers more than 40 base models of golf carts, utility vehicles, LSVs and NEVs, the Club Cars in the fleet at St. Andrews include Carryall utility vehicles and Precedent golf cars, all of which are outfitted with the state-of-the-art Guardian 2 communications technology.<\/p>\n<p>Guardian 2 is a new communications system that allows players and golf courses to share information through mobile networks. Course technicians can also use the system to control remotely the vehicles\u2019 speeds or bring them to complete stops.
